SAND CASTING

Crafted in Sand & Built to Last

At the Worcester Plant we pride ourselves on being a trusted supplier of high-quality aluminium sand castings, with expertise that extends across a variety of processes including sand casting. This traditional yet highly effective casting method has been at the heart of metal manufacturing for centuries, and our team combines time-tested techniques with modern technology to deliver components that are strong, reliable, and manufactured with precision. Sand casting is a process that uses a specially prepared sand mould to form the desired shape of a component. The process begins with the creation of a pattern, which is an exact replica of the finished part. This pattern is pressed into a carefully prepared sand mixture, which is tightly packed around it inside a mould box. The pattern is then removed, leaving behind a cavity in the sand that mirrors the shape of the product to be manufactured. Molten aluminium is poured into this cavity and left to cool and solidify. Once the metal has hardened, the sand mould is broken away to reveal the casting, which is then cleaned and finished to meet the client’s specifications.

Engineering Reliability – Cast in Sand

Sand Shaped to Your Needs

One of the key advantages of sand casting is its versatility. Unlike permanent die casting processes, which require costly steel moulds, sand moulds can be created quickly and adapted easily for different designs. This makes the process highly cost-effective for both low and medium production runs and particularly suitable for larger components that would be difficult to produce with other methods. At the Worcester Plant we can handle a wide range of component sizes, from smaller, intricate castings through to large structural parts, giving our customers the flexibility they need to bring their designs to life. The benefits of sand casting go beyond flexibility. The process allows for complex shapes, including hollow sections and intricate detailing, which means it can accommodate designs that may not be achievable through other casting techniques.

It also supports a variety of alloys, giving our clients the freedom to choose the most appropriate material for their application. While sand castings can require additional finishing compared with gravity die castings, the process offers an excellent balance of economy, adaptability, and reliability, making it one of the most widely used methods in the industry. We set ourselves apart by combining the traditional strengths of sand casting with modern foundry practices. Our experienced technicians take care at every stage, from the preparation of the sand and mould through to the precise pouring of molten aluminium and final finishing. We use only the highest quality sand and binders to ensure strong, accurate moulds that hold their shape under extreme heat, reducing the risk of defects and ensuring consistency across every batch.
